WHAT IS PEMBA?
Pemba is a town in Northern Mozambique where Ruth Donaldson has been working as a missionary for 7 years. Her main role has been caring for boys aged from 6 years old, most of whom who have been orphaned. After the age of 16 the boys have to leave this care ( as they would in the UK) but have no support for housing, job-seeking and gaining independence. Some of these young men have found themselves back on the streets or even in prison due to widespread extreme poverty and lack of opportunity.
Ruth is now moving house, out into the Mozambiquan community where she is passionate about supporting these young adults and providing a safety net when they need it.There are currently 3 boys who consider Ruth to be their mum, and the hope is that they can live in the house next door to Ruth where they can learn independence and life skills, but have a place to run to when times are tough.
HOW CAN I HELP?
Pray for Ruth’s sons to know Jesus as their heavenly father, and for ongoing provision for their needs as they arise. Pray also for Ruth, for wisdom, patience and all the things a parent of teenagers might need!
We as a church regularly send money to support Ruth’s work, if you feel you would like to give regularly or a one off donation please get in touch.
HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?
Yes! If you feel you would like to see for yourself, you can visit Pemba, and not only get involved in Ruth’s work, but be part of many other ministries that are part of Iris Global in Pemba. Ruth loves having visitors!
If this is a bit much for you right now, you can join the email group to receive Ruth’s newletters and get a feel for what’s going on.
If you are good at or passionate about fundraising this would be a great way to get involved and boost support for Ruth and Iris’ work in Pemba. You can donate financially here – http://www.rayleighvineyard.org/connect/
